I'm Óskar Bragi!
I began teaching Icelandic to connect with people who are passionate about the language. For over 10 years, teaching online has allowed me to build meaningful connections with students while rediscovering Icelandic in a deeper way.

Use filler words like „heyrðu“, „hérna“, or even „ha?“
Why?
Because they give you time to think about what you're going to say next, and they signal to native speakers that you know some of the everyday basics.
And remember: everyone struggles with a new language at first! So don’t be too hard on yourself.
Connect the language to something you love, like a hobby (doesn’t have to be movies or cold plunges), to make learning more enjoyable.

The Beginner A1 course is designed for English speakers with no previous knowledge of Icelandic.
Because English and Icelandic are very different, I explain most concepts in English so they are easier to understand, and you can gradually become comfortable with Icelandic.
We begin with the essential foundations and increase the difficulty step by step, giving you a clear and manageable introduction to the language.
BASIC EXPRESSIONS AND GRAMMAR
Learn essential greetings and become familiar with the foundational grammar you need to form simple sentences. These building blocks will prepare you to understand and use Icelandic with greater confidence as you progress.
EVERYDAY COMMUNICATION
Develop the skills to handle familiar situations in Icelandic. You’ll learn how to introduce yourself, ask and answer basic questions, express gratitude, apologize, and order food and drinks.
